SOS Read

The SOS Reading Program assesses and addresses the needs of each student and offers material to build vocabulary and comprehension in multiple content areas.  By using stories from both literature and informational texts, students are exposed to multiple topics and styles that promote interest and understanding. This is consistent with Common Core Standards in which students experience a range of classic and contemporary literature as well as challenging informative texts. Connected to reading comprehension is a focus on vocabulary words that appears in a variety of content areas including literary and informative topics.

The workbooks at Tutor Me SOS for grades 1–8 are 100% aligned with the new Common Core State Standards for English language arts.  For high school students who require a more comprehensive and specialized course load, we provide workbooks.  These workbooks are designed to boost students' chances for success on the reading portion of the English Language Arts test.

Tutor Me SOS adjusts its programs every year to align with school curriculum and state standards. At Tutor Me SOS, we know that students must learn to read, write, speak, listen, and use language effectively in a variety of content areas. In order to encourage the best development of these five activities for academic performance, we work on those basic skills needed to meet the Common Core Standards for English language arts:

  • Reading: Informational Text
  • Reading: Literature
  • Conventions of Standard English
  • Vocabulary Acquisition and Use
